Signature 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

The Wine. The inaugural vintage of the J. Lohr Signature Cabernet Sauvignon was released on Founder Jerry Lohr’s 80th birthday, January 1st, 2017, representing the culmination of more than 30 years of Jerry and team’s winemaking and winegrowing leadership in Paso Robles. The main source of fruit for this fourth vintage of J. Lohr Signature Cabernet originates from sustainably farmed Beck Vineyard; the Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon for this 2016 vintage comes exclusively from a prized 10-acre block on the estate. Located above the fog line, the vineyard benefits from abundant sunshine, with the high elevation keeping overall temperatures moderate, resulting in a beautifully rich and supple expression of Cabernet. While the Cabernet from Beck is dense and luxurious, it also possesses dynamic red fruit, complex secondary notes and vibrant acidity. During blending, Director of Winemaking Steve Peck and his team underscored the complexity of the Beck fruit by blending in Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Saint-Macaire. Saint-Macaire is a rare Bordeaux variety, and an exciting new grape for J. Lohr that adds beautiful color, nuance and palate richness to the final blend.

The Winery. Founded forty-six years ago by Jerry Lohr and still family owned and operated today, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts a full line of internationally recognized wines from its 4,000 acres of certified sustainable estate vineyards in Paso Robles, Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations, and St. Helena in Napa Valley.
