Barbaresco Producer Dante Rivetti Dies at 86

Italian producer Dante Rivetti, 86, well known for his Bricco di Neive and Micca crus of Barbaresco, passed away March 17. Rivetti began working with his father in the historic family winery in the 1950s; by the 1970s he had given it his own name, converting it from mainly Moscato production to artisanal production of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Arneis. Long a champion of the Langhe area of Piedmont, Rivetti was known for his meticulous work in the vineyard, pruning and harvesting strictly by hand and practicing chemical-free farming and sustainable agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, Luciana; son, Ivan; and daughters Katia and Mara.
